Sol Plaatje University
Part of the South African Government’s national imperative is to increase the country’s learning capacity in order to improve higher education standards in the country. More specifically, these standards would be increased by the creation of two new universities in areas with little, or no higher education capacity.
One of these institutions is the Sol Plaatje University in Kimberley in the Northern Cape Province. HKLM was tasked with creating an identity for the university that captured the heritage of the surrounding area, as well as portraying it as a centre of excellence.
HKLM constructed an identity drawing influence from the surrounding kokerboom in the area symbolising a beacon of light and a call to action that this is our time!
