Exxaro Sandton Eye Interior Design
HKLM enjoys a long-standing relationship with Exxaro having initially developed the brand and help take it to market at the time of its JSE listing in November 2006. Initial brand strategy and identity development were followed through in comprehensive implementation throughout the business and respective operations.
Towards the end of 2011, coinciding with Exxaro’s fifth birthday, HKLM was once again engaged in conducting a brand health check and positioning the brand and communication in line with the 2020 vision of the business which contains significant growth metrics. This has resulted in a wider spectrum of multi-disciplinary services including strategy, design, stakeholder communication and reporting, advertising and internal brand engagement.
HKLM was commissioned to design and deliver a unique new office space for Exxaro at the Sandton Eye Gautrain Hotel. The new satellite office is a minute’s walk from the Gautrain station, and makes it the ideal venue for visiting Exxaro executives and clients who need to get work done on the move. The new space was designed to contain some innovative and sophisticated décor choices, that incorporated Pan African motives, combined with fresh, clean lines that connect directly with Exxaro’s new thinking and vision for the future.
The brief was to create a stylish halfway house for Exxaro that is on trend worldwide, relating to Pan African expression and capturing the spirit of a mining company that is moving from strength to strength. After extensive research of corporate offices spaces in Europe, Australasia and Africa, the Exxaro satellite office was created. The result has an emphasis on extraordinary ideas, textures, technology and innovation. While the branding of the space needed to be effective and stand out, it was important to create integrated point branded space, which is sophisticated and subtle. The cutout Exxaro logo forms a welcome point to the generous reception space and immediately sets the tone for the space. This creates a branded interface between the executive and the client.
The eye is guided into the space through the subtle play of light and darkness. The exciting African textures, black polished tiles and woven fabric, create a warm and welcome environment.
