Inspired by the Nguni word “Vusa,” meaning “to awaken,” Envusa Energy was born out of a partnership between Anglo American and EDF Renewables to develop a renewable energy ecosystem to power all Anglo American operations by 2030 – in support of its commitment to carbon neutrality by 2040. Anglo American has made notable progress in its commitment to addressing climate change through its Sustainable Mining plan, and this partnership represented a significant development in responding to the need for carbon neutrality.
Envusa Energy merges innovation, engineering prowess, and renewable energy solutions to generate reliable, clean energy, to power a low-carbon future for Southern Africa.
Our challenge was to create a compelling and globally relevant stand-alone brand for this entity that would enable scalability and growth beyond just powering Anglo American’s mines. This included the development of a brand strategy, a name, a corporate identity, and visual language.
Against the backdrop of the energy crisis in South Africa, Anglo American and EDF Renewables have joined forces to establish Envusa Energy – a disruptive renewable energy brand that aims to introduce 3-5GW of energy supply to the country and continent.
Beyond stable electricity supply, renewable energy has the potential for largescale positive impact in our region. Envusa Energy will contribute to its decarbonisation, support its competitiveness on the global stage, and promote its socio-economic development.

Inspired by the collective collaborative strength and synergy of the honeycomb, Envusa Energy will collaborate with multiple entities to drive the production of sustainable energy across Southern Africa, radiating clean, renewable power to communities and industries.
The word Envusa translates to ‘New Dawn,’ and dawn refers to ‘morning’ or ‘to begin to grow light as the sun rises’.
Inspired by the colourful aesthetic of a purple sunrise, this palette creates complementary colours that, when used together, are striking and eye-catching. When the sky turns purple, it can signify that you are about to embark on a journey of discovery.
